Our Services

Continuous Skilled Nursing (CSN)

What Is CSN?

Continuous Skilled Nursing provides more than two continuous hours per day of medically necessary nursing services by licensed registered nurses (RNs) or licensed practical nurses (LPNs). It supports children and adults with complex medical needs who require extended nursing care to remain safely in the community.

CSN is not automatically 24/7 or around-the-clock care. Approved hours, schedule, and services depend on medical necessity, the individualized plan of care, payer requirements, authorization, and staffing.

Who Is Eligible for CSN?

CSN may be appropriate for children and adults who:

  • Have complex medical needs that require extended nursing care to remain safely in the community
  • Need more than two continuous hours per day of medically necessary nursing services
  • Require care from a licensed nurse, such as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse
  • Have an individualized plan of care that outlines their approved nursing services
  • Meet payer requirements and authorization for continuous nursing care

How Is CSN Different from Intermittent Skilled Nursing?

Intermittent Skilled Nursing consists of targeted nursing visits, typically less than two consecutive hours. On the other hand, CSN is a separate service for people who require more than two continuous hours of licensed nursing care per day.
